In Interview, Top Indonesian Muslim Scholar Says Stop Pretending That Orthodox Islam and Violence Aren’t Linked

By Marco Stahlhut | 8 Sep 2017

Indonesia, the world’s biggest Muslim-majority country, has a constitution that recognizes other major religions, and practices a syncretic form of Islam that draws on not just the faith’s tenets but local spiritual and cultural traditions. As a result, the nation has long been a voice of, and for, moderation in the Islamic world.

Yet Indonesia is not without its radical elements. Though most are on the fringe, they can add up to a significant number given Indonesia’s 260-million population. In the early 2000s, the country was terrorized by Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), a homegrown extremist organization allied with al-Qaeda. JI’s deadliest attack was the 2002 Bali bombing that killed 202 people. While JI has been neutralized, ISIS has claimed responsibility for recent, smaller terrorist incidents in the country and has inspired some Indonesians to fight in Syria — Indonesians who could pose a threat when they return home. The country has also seen the rise of hate groups that preach intolerance and violence against local religious and ethnic minorities, which include Shia and Ahmadiya Muslims.

Among Indonesia’s most influential Islamic leaders is Yahya Cholil Staquf, 51,advocates a modern, moderate Islam. He is general secretary of the Nahdlatul Ulama, which, with about 50 million members, is the country’s biggest Muslim organization. Yahya. This interview, notable for Yahya’s candor, was first published on Aug. 19 in German in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Here are excerpts translated from the original Bahasa Indonesia into English.

Many Western politicians and intellectuals say that Islamist terrorism has nothing to do with Islam. What is your view?

Western politicians should stop pretending that extremism and terrorism have nothing to do with Islam. There is a clear relationship between fundamentalism, terrorism, and the basic assumptions of Islamic orthodoxy. So long as we lack consensus regarding this matter, we cannot gain victory over fundamentalist violence within Islam.

Radical Islamic movements are nothing new. They’ve appeared again and again throughout our own history in Indonesia. The West must stop ascribing any and all discussion of these issues to “Islamophobia.” Or do people want to accuse me — an Islamic scholar — of being an Islamophobe too?

Illegal Muslim migrants march across Europe with placards: ‘open borders or die’

6 December 2015
These illegal Muslim occupiers need to be shot on forced entry, not lead to shelters all across Europe. The socialists are completely insane to let them in. There is no way to reverse their future demise anymore.

Ballet Jihad

From FrontPage Magazine
May 19, 2016 | By Deborah Weiss

Restricting the world of ballet in the name of “tolerance.”

Stephanie admits that some “adjustments” in ballet choreography, music and costumes might be needed to accommodate Muslims.  It’s important to note that these “adjustments” amount to much more than simply a religious accommodation to Muslims who want to wear a hijab during ballet class.  That Stephanie is not asking others to wear hijabs is irrelevant.  The adjustments Stephanie demands are tantamount to changing the art of ballet.
Shall we change the steps to Swan Lake because they are not Islamic enough?
If there is well known choreography, shall we destroy it to accommodate Islamic preferences?
If Bach constitutes un-Islamic music, shall we have the Muslim drummer (the only instrument Muslims are allowed to play), do different notes and still say it’s a Bach performance?

A 14 year-old Muslim convert wants to change the world of ballet, all in the name of “tolerance.”

Stephanie Kutlow, age 14, from Sydney, Australia, has been dancing since she was two years old.  She’s had the life-long goal of becoming a professional ballerina.

In 2010, when Stephanie was age 8, she, her two brothers and her Australian father all converted to Islam.  It’s unclear if her Russian mother was already a Muslim or converted along with the family.

Upon Stephanie’s conversion, she quit dancing for awhile, claiming that no full-time ballet studio would accept her with her hijab.  However, she missed her ballet practice, and feeling she shouldn’t have to sacrifice her hijab or her beliefs in order to pursue her dream of becoming a ballerina, she resumed her dancing.

Though there is no evidence that she is of professional caliber, she blames her lack of professional training on her hijab.  One article stated that her hijab was the only thing that separated her from other ballerinas.  Yet, anyone with a professional ballet background or familiarity with the professional world of ballet can see that Stephanie’s turn-out, feet and body type are all wrong for the competitive world of professional ballet.  (Sorry!)

Never-the-less, inspired by Micheala DePrince and Misty Copeland, both top-notch ballet dancers of color, Stephanie was determined to be the world’s first hijabbed ballet dancer.  She created a LaunchGood crowdfunding campaign to raise 10,000 dollars to pay for the professional training and ballet tutoring she said she needed.  Eventually, she wants to start a ballet school catering to those who are disengaged, or belong to religious and racial minorities.

Stephanie blames the ballet requirement to be hijab-free on “ignorance” and “Islamophobia.”  She explains that people shouldn’t be ashamed of their differences, but proud of them. She wants people to know that Muslims have the same values of love and kindness that others have.

Islamic State in France: “The French must die by the thousands”

5 May 2016
An ISIS cell in France threatened new rocket attacks on passenger jets and a new Charlie Hebdo-style massacre in chilling undercover video filmed by a journalist who infiltrated the group.

Russia-illegal-mosqueRussia: Explosives found in illegal mosque, detonated by authorities

May 2, 2016
In the U.S., if you don’t think a mosque is an exact equivalent to a church or a synagogue, you’re a racist, bigoted “Islamophobe.” Meanwhile, in January in Russia, an imam was arrested as weapons and explosives were found in his mosque. In Philadelphia, the Muslim who shot a cop for the Islamic State was a “frequent member” of a local mosque. In Singapore, 26 Muslims were deported; they supported the Islamic State, studied assassination techniques, and recruited in a mosque. That’s all just in January.

Pat Condell | Liberals (Apologists for evil)

Uploaded on Apr 6, 2011
Liberals are self hating people, they are even willing to sell their countries to people who hate our ways of lives. Every time you criticize Islam, you are called a racist, an Islamophobe or intolerant. Liberals are quick to defend Islam, and they hate America and the State of Israel.

I know that many of you clicked this title thinking to yourselves, “Oh this is just designed to be incendiary!”

No, it’s not.

I know many of you are thinking, “I understand your point, but we still need to be tolerant!”

No, we don’t.

Dear PC Leftists: Actually, ‘Islamophobia’ is an Entirely Logical ‘Phobia’…

From Louder with Crowder
By Courtney Kirchoff   |   January 4 2016

Dear SJW Leftists who make up new “phobias” on a bi-weekly basis,

I know it’s super popular right now to call everything racism. This morning I put a bit of milk into my coffee. I made it “less black.” Racism. Who am I to whitewash my coffee? I’m calling the ACLU to get me into a reeducation program. #BlackCoffeeMatters.

If you think that’s going down the rabbit hole of “that makes zero sense” then congratulations, you’ve grasped my point. Islam is a belief system, it isn’t a race. Being alarmed by the tenants of that belief system doesn’t make me a “racist” anymore than putting cream in my coffee makes me a white supremacist. Plus, I often drink tea instead. Of course, that’s only to assert my privilege over the historically problematic Indian tea trade, but I digress.

Now we’ve established everyone who says “being against Islam makes you a racist,” is two sashays away from being a retard, we can move on to debunking the more recent accusation: “Islamophobia.” Side note: CAIR has an entire website dedicated to Islamophobia. CAIR, by the way? They’re terrorist sympathizers. Yes really. We call that a “conflict of interest.”

Meet the real Islamophobia

From WND

Exclusive: Joseph Farah explains it’s the left that fears and capitulates to Muslims

16 March 2016   |  By Joseph Farah

Suggest that Islam bears watching as a dangerous ideology that can foster hatred, violence, terror and even genocide and you will almost assuredly be labeled an “Islamophobe.”

Yet, it’s not a fear of Muslims or Islam that causes some to warn about an ideology that subjugates women, uses children as cannon fodder and encourages their best and brightest to blow themselves up in the name of Allah. On the contrary, it takes courage to portray Islam in an honest fashion.

The civilized world is still reeling from Wednesday’s brutal attack against the French satirical publication Charlie Hebdo by gunmen seeking revenge for cartoons attacking Islam. Nevertheless, Breitbart.com reported Thursday, the White House announced it would make fighting Islamophobia a priority.

“Never mind that most Westerners aren’t Islamophobic, but rather GettingShotInTheFaceForExpressingMyOpinion-Phobic,” Ben Shapiro wrote. Speaking with reporters, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the real problem is lack of leadership in defending Islam.
