Detroit Firefighter Fired for Bringing ‘Racially Insensitive’ Watermelon to Work

A Detroit firefighter was fired before he officially began his first day on the job for bringing a watermelon to work.

Robert Pattison, 41, introduced himself to his fellow firefighters at Engine 55 at the corner of Joy and Southfield in Detroit by bringing a welcome gift, WJBK reported.

Second Battalion Chief Shawn McCarty calls this welcome gift “a tradition” for Engine 55’s firefighters.

“It’s not mandatory, it’s voluntary,” he said. “You come in bearing gifts. The usual gift is doughnuts, but you are allowed to bring whatever you want to bring in.”

Pattison, who was a probationary firefighter, decided to stand out from the crowd and bring a watermelon with a pink bow on top.

Some black firefighters were reportedly offended by Pattison’s gesture since 90 percent of the firefighters at Engine 55 are black.

The Mistake of Pandering to Antifa and Black Lives Matter

I cringed when I heard fellow black conservatives whom I respect on TV saying that while they condemn the violent behavior of Antifa/Black Lives Matter some of their grievances against America are warranted. I wanted to scream at my TV, “Hogwash!”

These conservative blacks on TV are merely trying to create peace and civility by agreeing with some of the bogus accusations of racism dreamed up by Leftist intellectuals. They are also trying to prove they are not Uncle Toms. I think it is a huge mistake to pander to lies about America; acting as though very little has changed racially since the 1950s.

As a black person, I know the Black Code. It is the same as what Michael Corleone said to his brother Fredo, “Don’t ever take sides against the family. Ever!” Many blacks and Leftists believe to qualify as an authentic black American, one must harbor a deep-seated resentment against white America.

Watching black conservatives on TV saying Antifa/Black Lives Matter have some legit grievances regarding white privilege, I found myself scratching my head. For the life of me, I have no idea what millennial blacks who have never suffered a moment of “real” racism in their lives are so enraged about; whining, complaining, and destroying property.

The vandalization of a statute of University of Virginia founder Thomas Jefferson by students and Black Lives Matter rioters suggests the Left is escalating the ugly Cultural Revolution-style upheaval that President Obama encouraged in office.

This iconoclastic insurrectionism is spreading, as angry left-wing mobs topple statues of figures from the past they dislike. In Chicago, Bishop James Dukes of Liberation Christian Center is demanding that the names and statues of George Washington and Andrew Jackson be removed from parks. Others want Woodrow Wilson’s name excised from buildings and schools because he supported racial segregation. The list goes on and on.

The disorder in Charlottesville comes as a monument in Baltimore honoring Francis Scott Key, who wrote the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner,” was spray-painted with the words “racist anthem.” Leftist writer Jefferson Morley suggested on Tucker Carlson’s TV show that the vandalism was justified, but more on that in a moment.

As about a hundred students chanted “No Trump, no KKK, no racist UVA,” the Jefferson monument on the school’s main quad was draped in black and adorned with signs reading, “Black Lives Matter,” “TJ is a racist,” and “Fuck white supremacy.”

Here’s the antidote to St. Louis riots and rage

The more you give in to angry people, the worse they get.

Case in point: black protesters in St. Louis, Missouri.

Violent Black Lives Matter protesters clashed with police after ex-St. Louis cop Jason Stockley was acquitted of first-degree murder in the 2011 shooting death of drug dealer Anthony Lamar-Smith.

Smith was attempting to flee from police when he slammed his vehicle into a police cruiser and took off, causing a dangerous high-speed chase. Stockley, who is white, claimed he shot the suspect, who is black, in self-defense because he thought Smith was reaching for a gun.

According to St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson, the prosecutors failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Officer Stockley did not act in self-defense.

Smith was out on parole for convictions of drug distribution, theft and illegal gun possession at the time of the shooting.

But facts don’t matter to angry blacks. The acquittal of Stockley gave Black Lives Matter license to riot and assault police. What began as a protest march erupted with a wild mob tearing through downtown St. Louis and through the city’s affluent areas. Protesters said they wanted whites to feel the pain.

Protesters burned American flags, damaged police cruisers and destroyed businesses. At least 10 officers were assaulted with bricks and bottles; 23 suspects were arrested. The violence caused local businesses to cancel major venues. Protesters also temporarily shut down a major mall in St. Louis. They chanted, “You kill one of us, we kill your economy,” and they carried Black Lives Matters signs.

Obama will host a global summit this fall in Chicago aimed at inspiring and empowering people to “change the world.”

Wait a minute … Didn’t his slogan involve the word ‘change’ and didn’t he have eight full years to accomplish said change?

During his farewell address, Obama even said ‘mission accomplished.’
